Most of the year Helen was so tight with her money she felt like a Scrooge. Until every year at Christmas time when she got her annual bonus, which she always split between charity and gifts for family and friends.
Scrooge- n. A mean-spirited miserly person; a skinflint. After Ebenezer Scrooge, miserly protagonist of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
